Swearing

Please post some comments about how you handle swearing in the classroom. I just want to know some of your tactics. Are there different standards in the PE setting? Say you have an intense game of pickle ball unfolding and you have an intense student who misses a serve, is this any different?

Physical Discipline

What do you all think is too much physical discipline in a PE setting?

I know you can make students run, do push-ups, and sit-ups for behavioral problems or being late and this is something else you can't do in a regular classroom setting. What do you all think is appropriate?

All About Chance

I am currently living in Vale, Oregon and teaching Physical Education at both the middle and secondary levels. I also spend time coaching the high school wrestling team and spend most weekends hanging out at wrestling matches. Along with my teaching duties, I am also working on my Master's degree through EOU.

Shape Up Across Oregon

I am joining forces with several other teachers at the middle school where I teach and we are having all the students participate in the "Shape Up Across Oregon" program. We have modified it slightly to meet our time schedule, and have also included a reading piece in which our students can also "Read Across Oregon" by reading up to 90 minutes per day. This is in addition to the 90 minutes a day that they can record for their daily exercise routine. They may count their PE time, but must also include activities outside the classroom in order to make it clear across Oregon in the alloted 30 day time period.

If you have any questions about how we are implementing this program in our school, please feel free to contact me.
